Happiness project
MUN Project
This Project was Many thing In one. We had to write research papers and had to do lots of research. We Also had to write policy papers to present are countries perspective. Then had to write and give speeches. While trying to solve real world problems. It was pretty fun.
If you want to see my first policy paper click here. If you want too see my first resolution click here. If you want to see my second policy paper click here. If you want to see my second resolution click here. MY: Reflection If Another student came up to me and asked why the MUN project was important I would give them two reasons. One, I prepares you for the MUN like project you do in senior year. Two It would prepare you for Real life situations, like if you were going to go into a UN position. Both of these are great ways that this project prepares you in life. Its as simple as that its a great project and can help you in many things. I think the HOHAM I was most proud of using in this project is probably perseverance. The reason why is because this project took a lot of perseverance. I have used it in my speeches. I also used it in writing supper long policy papers and resolutions because I hate Writing. There were so many thing I had to use perseverance for I can't even count them. The greatest challenge I faced in this project was probably the writing. I hate writing with a passion and this project specifically had a lot of it. The way I dealt with it was I had to push myself to do the writings and use perseverance to get them done. In the end I feel that My writings were a thousand times better than anything I wrote last year. Resulting in better grades and Better writing skills. The Most interesting resolution I saw was Matties Three state resolution. I just thought that this was the most interesting because I was creative and out of the box. This not only consisted of splitting the state of israel into two areas on for the israelis and one for the palestinians. It also consisted of Having another state so they could live together peacefully. Its just interesting the logic and effort that would have been put behind this. |
Mask project
Mask project is a project where we made a mask and essay to describe how we have been socialized.
How I Have Been Socialized
Socialization is how we, in our world, have made up rules that socialize the ways of are lives to a way which can be bad at some points. Agents are people who are the top dogs, like men are agents because they have more privileges than women. Targets are people who are the underdogs, like other cultures other than white or caucasian are targets because they don’t have the same privileges. Identity categories are the way, we as people, are identified in groups. This is how we are socialized in the real world. Socialization is important because it is how it defines us positively or negatively. I have been socialized as a male to believe it is best to be tough, aggressive and show no emotion, my religion tells me to not have sex before marriage, also because i’m not fully white, society has lead me to believe that white people have privileges that I can’t.Christianity has taught me to not have sex before marriage and that I should save myself for that level of intimacy. My youth pastor tells us to not have sex before marriage because it is ungodly and sinful, he mention that about a year ago at my church to inform myself and my peers. I for one actually think this has socialized me in a positive and assertive way and not in a way that other people would agree with. For one thing I get to be different than some kids at my school and say no I have hadnot sex so back off. Also I can respect myself, and I can respect others. So Because of my religion I am able to say no to someone if they ask me, “Have you ever had sex before” and so it has socialized me in a good way and a different way than some of my friends.
Another thing that has socialized me is the way male gender has been portrayed, it has socialized me in bad and good ways. When I was little I would get hurt and go to my dad and he would comfort me but if I came to my friends with tears they would say toughen up and still do today. In Tony Porters TED talk, A Call to Men proved this way guys are socialized, He called it the man box, It states that men have to be tough, have no emotion and have to demonstrate power and control.Being a man has socialized me in many ways. For example men are made to be though, I don't mind being tough in certain cases like show off to girls. Although I don't like that we have to show no emotion, I disagree with that because it doesn't feel right to judge someone who is emotional or to get judged when I am emotional because if something happens I want to be able to go to someone and ask for help even when I am in tears. The one thing I really don't like is how we can't even seem to come across as we are gay or we will get judged and I disagree with that because sometimes I would like to wear something pink without getting judged, but guys have been socialized to where if you wear that color you are considered gay. For example when I lived in Oklahoma my favorite color from ages 3 to 7 was pink and around 8 years old my cousin and his friends put me down and said that i needed to change my favorite color and from then on its been blue. These are only a couple of the ways I have been categorized as male and Somethings I don't like about being categorized this way and some ways I don't.
Another example of negative and positive socialization is race, I have gotten picked on a lot and don’t like it personally. In the article White Privilege; Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack It said “White Privileges is like an invisible knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tool, and blank checkbooks.” This has put me at a disadvantage because I may look white but i'm not, I am one fourth mexican a sixteenth choctaw and cherokee so it puts me at a disadvantage. I have gotten picked on because of my race and the disadvantages I have. For example I got called names because I was not fully white even though I look it. I also was at a disadvantage with school because of me being not white the teachers didn't help me much. These are the reasons why I dislike racism and say its bad and even though I look white, I may have some privileges but I don’t have all of the privileges white people have. A pro is free college at certain college’s, for example fort lewis college. So there are some pros and cons to race.
For one I can break the harmful cycles of socialization by doing things that revoke male gender stereotypes. When someone disagrees with my religion I can stand up for myself and say that I don't care and they don’t have to agree with me. Also I will not listen or pay attention to people when they brag about the things that they have and privileges they receive and let them know that regarding my race I am still equal. So I can stop the bad parts of socialization by out of the way pushing the harmful cycles of socialization out of the way, and focus on what's good.
